Soundscapes art work by Christopher Lane

This Sunday Tottenham Soundscapes will bring the second in their series of locally-inspired concerts to All Hallows church in Bruce Grove.

The free event will fill Tottenham’s oldest church with a mix of classical, contemporary jazz and world music.

Its creator, Verity Lane, is a local born music maker and producer, who after spending the last ten years living in Japan has returned to her Haringey roots to put together a programme of “Tottenham-themed” concerts.

Offering an accessible alternative to conventional classical music, Tottenham Soundscapes has community spirit at its core and will showcase an eclectic mix of music, including Tottenham-themed improvisations celebrating local cultural assets from around the area.

This week’s lineup features Evan Parker on saxophone, Clive Bell on shakuhachi (bamboo flute) and Zac Gvirtzman on piano. The programme will include a premiere of a new work by Verity for shakuhachi and bell. And to mark it being Remembrance Sunday, there’s an improvised piece called “Tottenham Poppies”.

The last Soundscapes event in August drew a crowd of over 120 people and this second concert looks set to be an even bigger success.

Expect an exciting mix of music and the avant-garde with a community atmosphere; visit Bruce Castle before the concert and follow up with a pint at the Antwerp Arms, and you’ve got the makings of a great (historic) Tottenham Sunday.
