7 reasons to enjoy your Easter week in Tottenham

Whether it’s hunting for chocolate eggs, treating yourself to delicious food and drink, partying or exploring hidden corners that gets your Easter going – Tottenham has it all.

In the run up to the bank holiday, the area is abuzz with events catering for its diverse population of established residents, young families and carefree singletons – every day of the week.

Here’s a list of some of Seventhsister’s favourite things to get you out and about over the next few days. We’ll certainly be checking them out personally this Easter!

1. Egg hunt at The Hub and much more

Easter is a season more than just a bank holiday, right? So on top of their usual programme of classes, The Hub at Lordship Rec are putting on a series of events leading up to Monday. Highlights include an Easter egg hunt on Wednesday that will get children and adults out searching around the park (with the help of a hunt sheet); an arts and crafts session for children on Thursday; and Seventhsister’s favourite, BMX sessions and race skills on Tuesday for 8 – 12 year olds (bikes provided, all levels of ability welcome). We love how this community space has been bringing Tottenham’s largest green space to life. Guaranteed to keep your children occupied over the holidays. 2. Asian Pop Up and local art at Craving Coffee

Tangys Tasty Stuff are taking over the kitchen at Craving Coffee with their Asian-inspired dishes and treats for three evenings this Easter weekend. Food will be served on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening as part of the café’s Tottenham Social Pop-Up scheme. There’s also still time to take in the group art exhibition ‘Moments’, which runs until the end of this month. It features life drawings, watercolour paintings and prints created by people who have attended classes in the local area. If you spot a future masterpiece or something beautiful to brighten up the lounge, there will be an opportunity to bid for it in the silent auction (prices will start from a very reasonable £7).

3. Get your Lovers Rock on at T Chances

Dancehall, reggae and lovers rock – T Chances has it all at their Mamas & Papas Easter party. The arts and music centre on Tottenham High Road (with the eye catching painted bus outside) has DJs from Spice Radio to get you in the dancing mood. Add in a guest appearance from lovers rock queen, Carroll Thompson, and a free buffet and that’s your night sorted.

4. All the fun of Finsbury Park’s Easter funfair

Children and grown-ups alike can let off some steam over the Easter break with a trip to Finsbury Park’s good, old fashioned funfair. Have a try at the coconut shy, settle some mock feuds head on in the bumper cars or enjoy the views from the ferris wheel. Seventhsister is looking forward to all the old classics.

5. Discover hidden Tottenham

Nab yourself a copy of new book, Tottenham Walks, by local residents Mareeni Raymond and Edward Richards and use the long weekend to start exploring. With routes ranging from the Marshes to Hidden Tottenham, there’s lots to choose from. Learn about the historic architecture of the area, discover the Tudor Tower and then stop for a pint in the Antwerp Arms, serving since 1822. Why not do something different this bank holiday weekend?

6. Experience Tottenham’s best mile

Tottenham has in recent times become the microbrewery capital of London. With five different independent brewing companies in operation, there’s some serious craft beers being produced. Three of them – Redemption, One Mile End and Beavertown – have opened up their doors and now operate their own taprooms at the weekend. On Saturday, you can work your way through their different beers and ales right where the magic happens. All the taprooms do bar food and Redemption will also have local food pop up, Glenroy’s, serving up jerk chicken burgers. Walk the infamous Tottenham Mile if you’re feeling game and sample them all.

7. Non-stop fun at the Beehive

This bank holiday weekend the Beehive pub are pulling out the stops and have put together a fun fuelled line up of events. Starting on Thursday and taking place over five days, they’re extending your bank holiday and are packing in a dizzying amount. As usual, this venue successfully caters for Tottenham’s new and established clientèle: choose from a pop up market selling arts & crafts and vintage clothing; a super-sized Easter egg hunt with over a hundred eggs hidden in the beer garden; an egg painting station; DJs; a BBQ; the chance to put your creative mark on their new mural wall; and ever-popular football screenings and bouncy castle. Turn up and you might never want to leave.
