Great Taste is one of world’s most coveted and competitive food awards, celebrating the very finest in the business. This year, Tottenham’s own Prestige Patisserie managed to scoop a star for their mouthwatering salted caramel, chocolate and walnut tart.
With a soft caramel filling sprinkled in sea salt, encased in a crisp, buttery pastry and finished off with caramelised walnut brittle, the tart wowed judges.
Out of over 12,600 products entered, only a small fraction received stars. Judged by over 500 of the most demanding palates belonging to food critics, journalists, chefs, restaurateurs and producers, Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers.
As well as a badge of honour, the unmistakable black and gold Great Taste label promises a wonderful tasting product, which has been discovered through hours of blind tasting.
Geanina Ursache, who runs Prestige Patisserie with husband George, told us what the award means for the independent artisan bakery.
“Tottenham is our home, and if it wasn’t for the support from this wonderful community, our business wouldn’t be where it is today. Winning a Great Taste Award is a huge achievement for us, and we’re overwhelmed with joy. Our ethos and vision has always been to bake everything from complete scratch, from flaky pastries, rich cakes to our indulgent creams and curds. We are thrilled that our love for baking has been recognised by such a prestigious award.”
